Fly fishing with Brandon
In early to mid-spring, we target bass on Folsom Lake—perfect for beginners and youth. Late spring and early summer bring shad on the Lower American River. Mid to late summer, we chase striped bass, and in the fall, it's all about steelhead. As winter sets in, we switch between bass and steelhead, depending on conditions.
I can accommodate 2 anglers on my boat. If you have a larger group, let me know and I will do my best to accommodate with the help of other guides in the area.

Gratuities are not included in the cost of your trip but are always welcome and greatly appreciated. Your guides work hard to make your experience both entertaining and educational. While gratuities are never expected, they are a thoughtful way to show your appreciation if you feel you've learned something valuable or had a great time. A customary gratuity is 15-20% of your trip's total, though the amount is entirely up to you.
Essentials
Fishing license
All clients must have a valid CA Fishing License, as well as a CA Steelhead Report Card to fish on the Lower American River. You will need to provide proof at the beginning of the day, so we can properly fill it out together.

SUNSCREEN
SPF is essential for a long day on the water with very limited shade. I always have some on the boat as well.

POLARIZED SUNGLASSES
Green, amber, and blue lenses work best in our river environment

food n' drinks
Water, ice and snacks are provided on all trips. Additionally, lunch is provided on full day trips ONLY. We have a large cooler on board so BYOB.

TACKLE
We provide high-quality fly fishing gear, but feel free to bring your own. We use 6wt rods for shad and steelhead, 8wt rods for striped bass, and 7wt rods for black (largemouth, spotted, and smallmouth) bass. Flies will be provided.
